You deserve Better

Standard

During pre-production HELL becomes a reality… but just remember this and make every decision based on this fact and nothing else: It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about you. It only matters what YOU think. And if you are willing to let them think whatever they want to think–about anything, even about you–then you will be able to hold your thoughts steady with who-you-really-are; and you will in time feel good, no matter what.

If you are at a crossroads…revisit your vision and reasons for even embarking upon making the film in the first place and you will recenter yourself and make sound decisions. Do not make decisions out of haste or because you are emotionally distraught. Stay on the lonely path and fight for what you want.

On Screenwriting

Standard

A screenplay’s worth has to be measured less by its language than by its architecture and how that dramatizes the theme. A screenplay, we directors soon enough learn, is not a piece of writing as much as it is a construction. We learn to feel for the skeleton under the skin of words. – Elia Kazan

I am learning more and more about my craft everyday and sometimes the revelations come when I realize that much of what we feel is simple, not deep, but merely caused by a simple structure of events or ingredients… such is the structure of screenwriting and the emotional map that is connected with many characters and stories. Today I am working on being simple. Story is simple. Life is complicated. – Libah
